clean slate

public service awareness campaign

Brief: A local council has become increasingly aware of the rise in the number of graffiti 'tagging' sites that have started to appear across the city. The council prides itself in supporting the arts and culture and in particular values social expression but also needs to ensure that its budgets are best spent in maintaining the necessary levels of services for the wider population of the city. The cost of removing graffiti on a regular basis is starting to adversely impact on the Councils budgets whilst in addition there are increasing levels of concern being raised across the City's online social media channels.

Data from a variety of youth groups and from within its own Youth Services Department suggests that the main demographic of 'taggers' are male between the ages of 14-18. The Council would like to develop an awareness campaign that both illustrates its support for the arts and social expression but also where it needs to emphasise the social and economic impact that this type of activity is potentially having on the wider community. Currently the Council has a range of online/offline communication channels that they use to communicate in general across the city and work with a range of youth group partners. They want to ensure that the message is clearly heard amongst young people and where the number of these incidences can be reduced.

To tackle this issue I came up with idea of implementing legal walls in the community to provide a safe space for local artist the paint graffiti legally which does not open reduce the amount of tagging sights but also improves the work which is being produced. To make sure I am also helping local businesses I proposed the idea of an opening day event where businesses could rent out a marquee to sell their products and services. Below are some of the mockups and social media assets which I had made for the campaign.

For of synoptic project at the end of my digital marketing apprenticeship I had to choose from 6 campaign projects I had only 4 days to complete all of my research, campaign and a powerpoint concluding all of my decisions.

I picked the public service awareness campaign for a local council which were looking for a solution for ‘tagging’ incidents across the city. My solution to the issue would be to introduce the campaign ‘CLEAN SLATE’ which aims to reduce the amount of tagging sights through the implementation of legal walls in the area.
